welcome...

I'm a Scottish author of dark tales, the creator of 'Jimmy and the Black Wind' and night owl.

These pages are where you will find postings about story info, projects I'm working on, the 'Infected Friday' series and anything else I might want to write about.

Any feature which has the word 'Infected' in the title surely merits mentioning two novels by the Future Dark Overlord, Scott Sigler.

So for those of you who read these posts I've decided to write a little bit about 'Infected' and the sequel, 'Contagious'. And yes, they do touch upon my other great interest which is the decimation of the human race! As the titles suggest, one book concerns the infection of a handful of people whereas the other ramps up the tension and covers a much wider area.

The as-yet-unwritten 3rd book in the series, 'Pandemic', is... well...WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENS? What the f***, is what I say to that one! It looks as if it will be as the name suggests and be all over the goddamn world! Is that what the FDO wants? To take over the world and infect us all with his brand of shocks and scares?

Anyway, what do you do if you have an itch? Well, I guess you would just scratch it, hoping it would go away. You would hope it was nothing and dismiss it, wouldn't you? There could be a little more scratching because the itch is still there. But what if it's something more? What if it's something serious? You'd start to worry, wouldn't you?

I think you would worry but you's still think it would go away. Maybe if you went to sleep then when you wake back up after a good night's rest, it would be gone. You wouldn't worry then... IF IT WENT AWAY!

But what if it was still there? And what if it had become worse overnight? You would go and see someone and get it checked out. Correct... but what if you knew the itches were not your usual bog-standard everyday kind? What if you knew they were alive? What the hell would you do then?

Yes, you've guessed it: you'd freak out big-time! Like most people. And you'd want them out of your body. You'd be done the road looking for a doctor or hospital to take the things out of you. "Take them out," you'd scream. If only they could be removed, then that would be great. No more itches. No more worries. No more pain.

But, in 'Infected', the itches are much worse! An airborne parasitic infection which turn into living blue triangles below the skin make you itch. Alive and intent on taking you over.

Perry Dawsey doesn't want the triangles to take him over and opts for a rudimentary approach to ridding himself of the triangles. He wants to remain in control and decides to... Ah!.. I'm not going to say in case you want to read the novel or listen to the free audiobook... but suffice to say Perry acts rather drastically! Alright, I'll say it: CHICKEN SCISSORS. That's all I'm saying though!

And the thought that triggered the novel? Well, it's like I said, when you have an itch you hope that it's nothing more. You tune out the ideas and thoughts that it could be something much worse. Hey, you certainly don't think that the itch is because of alien spores which have worked their way under your skin. No, you just imagine that you've caught something which will go away in time.

But blue triangles don't go away! Blue triangles are bad and make you cranky! So, don't catch blue triangle disease. It'll literally kill you

Anyway, if you like sci-fi/horror books then Sigler is your man. 'Infected' is scary in so many ways from playing on our fears about annoying itches to realising how easy it is for someone to kill when provoked.

One minute, things are hunky-dory and life is swell, the next you are being used by the alien blue triangles in their quest to destroy human civilisation. And to top it all: the blue triangles talk to you. Yep, that's right, as if having pesky blue triangles below your skin wasn't bad enough, the damn critters have discovered a way to tap into your head.

Scary Perry Dawsey hates them and will not them win. He will not let them control him but the heat gets cranked up in 'Contagious'.
