What frightens you in this modern world, dear reader?
Oh, we know about the zombies and their shuffling, determined desire to get to your lovely untainted flesh. And the vampires, recently given a sexy new makeover in the Twilight series of movies, are still creepy and supernatural. Don't forget about the werewolves who will chase you and hunt you down each time there is a full moon.
Yeah, the zombies, vampires and werewolves are just three things which frighten us. There are a hell of a lot more and each one of us is frightened by lots of different things. But most of them, if not all, are a bit old hat, don't you think? Don't get me wrong about them though, because they still have the capacity to scare the shit out of us, even after all these years. And I still like those kind of monsters. Their endurance is a testament to their sheer brilliance.
But, old hat or not, they were dreamed up years ago so what new horrors abound in our modern society? The Campaign for Real Fear ran a competition recently to discover new terrifying fiction that reflects the diversity of 21st-century life. Unfortunately, this competition has now closed with the winners being announced soon.
Regardless of the competition closing, what scares you in this mixed-up, frenetic thing that we call life? What frightens you and keeps you awake at night? Are you scared to poke a toe out from under the duvet in case that thing below the bed takes a bite? What about the thing lurking in that dark corner below the stairs?
You know, this world is not as big as it used to be, but there are still things which are out there, hiding and waiting. They're in the dark, in the light, in the most unsuspecting place. Waiting, hiding, patient.
Horrible things can be found everywhere. What's horrific for one person is another one's cup of tea. Of course, that what makes us so unique. It wouldn't do if we were all the same so the horrors are not all the same.
Go on, tell me about those horrors in out modern society. Tell me what frightens you, tell me what scares you half to death.
For me, there is a few things which scare me such as... Ah, I'm not going to say here! You'll just have to read my stories, sift through the information on my site and the journal pages and work it out!
Thanks for reading.
Stay alive and see ya back here next week!
