The new trend in book fiction is angels apparently!
Some in the book industry have been touting angels as the new vampires. Trends come and go and the angels will have their moments of glory, on their pedestals above all the other icons.
The angels will be in print and on the silver screen but they're not really scary, are they? Have the vampires run their course? Not bloody likely - they're only sleeping! Pardon the pun but they'll be back!
Then again, maybe angels are not supposed to be scary! Maybe we are going to get a whole new wave of novels based around heroic characters doing good, fighting evil. Maybe I'm seeing this all wrong and the angels are the beacons of hope in this crazy world. Maybe, (I know, another maybe!), they'll take over and slay all the bad people. It'll be bye bye Dracula, see you later Bub, Freddy and Jason go home. And Chucky? to the dump with you!
I can't see it - can you?
All the horror icons - the vampires, the zombies, the serial killers and the demonic toys - never go away. They'll stand to the side and allow the angels to have their moments of glory. The angels will be oblivious as the undead talk to the blood-suckers, not realising that their downfall is being plotted!
It's an infection. The zombies will be looking to eat the angels. The vampires will retreat to their crypts. The serial killers will take the opportunity to sharpen their chosen instrument of death. And all those demonic and possessed toys? Well, they'll dream up more fantastic ways to outsmart and outdo those who are bigger than them.
Anne Rice - I know you've got to move on but to angels?
Well, my Infectious Followers , I predict a new trend: zombies and vampires joining forces to wage war on the angels!
The zombies roam around the planet, recruiting more people into the Army of the Dead, which in turn provide an endless supply of blood for the vampires. Hey, is that right? Do the undead have blood pumping around their veins?
Well, the zombies and the vampires should join forces anyway and kick the lily-white angel asses!
