Neil Colquhoun's Journal

welcome...

I'm a Scottish author of dark tales, the creator of 'Jimmy and the Black Wind' and night owl.

These pages are where you will find postings about story info, projects I'm working on, the 'Infected Friday' series and anything else I might want to write about.

There's plenty of mad and bad-ass diseases out there in our world but one of the most horrifying is Ebola which does some horrible things to you if you catch it.

This is one thing you don't want to become Infected with! Basically it's a haemorrhagic fever which means you bleed to death from the inside out, orifices pouring with blood. The first Ebola outbreak was in 1976 in Zaire, now called the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and had an 88% fatality rate.

To me, that's a pretty high mortality rate but scientists reckon they might have a cure. They found a plant which, in laboratory tests, has halted the Ebola virus. And amazingly enough, the plant can be found in the same forest that the virus originates from. If the lab tests can be replicated outside, then it's a great leap forward because 4 out of 5 people die who contract this virus.

It's pretty gross: you bleed from the mouth, eyes, ears and all the rest of the holes! And you know what? Nobody is really sure where it originates from - and that is scary. Those forests hold a damn lot more mysteries than we can comprehend - and we cut them down. So, maybe by cutting them down and invading the homelands of the natives and indigenous species we are releasing these viruses into a wider area.

As I said, this is one of those diseases that I don't want you to catch, unless you are a character in one of my stories.

Join the Legion and become Infected.

Stay Alive
